Archimedes screwpump generates energy

In the Dutch Wilhelminakanaal at Tilburg a new lock (no. III) will be realized with a Landy hydropower screw turbine. Unique about this project is the double function of this Archimedes screw : pumping up water to a higher level and generating renewable energy (355 kW) for some 250 households, the more so as in The Netherlands with hardly any natural water drop.

The hydroscrew turbine dimensions 3.4 m diameter, length 17.5 m and capacity of 11,520 m3/h.

The project is initiated by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment.
