Overview
The role of the estimator is to assist and produce priced tenders that are accurate, clearly detailed, competitive and returned within deadlines. Maintain good relationships with prospective clients and professionals to promote further tender invitations and provide clearly identified price build-ups to the Project team.
Responsibilities:
- Carefully inspect tender documentation. Analyse exact requirements and identify areas that have implications to the company in terms of contractual requirements
- Provide a detailed “take-off” and Bill of Quantities (BQ) to assist with the tender and subsequent handover if the winning bidder
- Visit site and make all necessary notes and take appropriate photographs. Assimilate information and take account of in tender pricing, liaise with Project team on site specific elements/methods to include in tender along with installation time scales and required resources.
- Prepare tender build-ups and arrange a meeting with the relevant Director to adjudicate the price prior to tender submission. Explain the project, the basis of pricing and the names of any other competing contractors so that an agreed tender price can be agreed
- Collate tender information and build-ups and complete a report for the handover meeting. Arrange convenient meeting date with Project department within one week of letter of intent or order received. Attend meetings, explain project and handover documentation.
- Provide support to other estimators in pricing tenders and providing budget costing. Check other colleague’s tenders for price and contractual terms and conditions (pier approval)
- Provide monthly report on tenders submitted and their outcome, to meet with company targets set out for the quarter and be responsible for achieving them.
Skills & Experience
- Experience with Steel Fabrication/Structural Steel Estimating is essential
- Specific engineering skill-based qualification to level 3 or above, and has 3 years Estimating based experience
- IT literate (able to produce detailed tenders and reports)
- Commercial and contractual awareness
- Good negotiation, influencing and communication skills, well-spoken and personable, able to get on with diverse personalities
- Conversant with Microsoft Project or equivalent
